Freebies, Junk Journal

The Day Before

I can’t believe how fast time flies. It seemed in April that it would be quite some time before that little one joined us & here it is….

SotC Layered Border Off we go

time to drive across America & meet him. I cannot wait. The hardest part of this trip is leaving my little companion behind. He’ll be well cared for by family, one who is staying with him, but I can’t help but shed a few tears. I’ll miss him so.

I’m definitely going to try posting a blog or two while I’m away, but not promising a darn thing. I want to remind you that soon the lovely Flower Gathering Junk Journal Kit will no longer be free.

Download it now because September 1st is approaching with a mad rush into autumn. You’ll find all the info you need in the previous post or just click Here.

So much to do. Have a wonderful weekend!

Oh my gosh! It’s finally ready to deliver to you…Kit No. 2 of the Flower Gathering Junk Journal. So sorry it’s taken so long, but as a freebie I work on it in between other projects, but it is totally worth the wait.

Junk Journal Journey

What’s in kit no. 2, you ask? It starts with 4 pages/papers plus 1. The extra paper is a solid-colored, aged paper that you can use in oh so many ways. You may want to print on both sides using a solid paper on one side. More on ideas, tips & directions later. Each paper has an image or pattern from an old source, the lace border began as muslin pattern from the early 1800s.

Ok, ok…what else is in the Flowering Gathering Junk Journal kit no. 2?

Let’s just list the items:

  1. Five Pages/Papers JPGs
  2. Three Ephemera Sheets with tags, flower cards, rounds in 2 inch & 1.25 inch & a journal card
  3. Three pages of pockets in various sizes

All together there are 36 embellishments for your junk journal & 5 papers.  (Not all are shown)

This is rather large zipped folder to download & depending on your internet connection, it may take some time, but be patient…Good Things Come to Those Who Wait!

Coming Soon to Blog

If you’re loving the idea of a junk journal but not sure just how to get started, I’ll be sharing a PDF that will have directions, resources, ideas, & tips to help you along the way. You’ll be able to download the PDF & have the manual at your fingertips whenever you want to work on your journal.

I want to remind you that the kits will be available for free for a short time. At some point in the future they will be removed from the blog & listed on Studio on the Corner Etsy shop. The SotC shop version will have more options such as PDF editable tags so you can add text, individual PNG files allowing the bits & pieces to be used in digital projects, plus extras not in the Freebie packages. Don’t worry though, this will not happen for a while.

Here are some new resources and ones I shared in the Kit 1 Post. Check these wonderful resources out to acquaint yourself with junk journaling & get you on your merry way.

Junk Journal Journey

Junk Journal Journey

Well here we are…1 week later & I have the first kit ready to be downloaded. If you’re taking this journey with me I’ll bet you’re anxious to get started. Here’s what’s in the kit…

Flower Gathering Junk Journal Kit 1

0512171521a

~ 4 Pages/Papers 8.5-inches x 11-inches: You can print the papers on one side or both. There will likely be a narrow white border around the paper after printing, just trim it off & then fold the paper in half. These four papers become 16 pages of your junk journal. Print on standard, 8.5-inch x 11-inch paper.

Papers for junk kit

~ Library Card Pocket, Flip, & Book Plate: an old library pocket from a book was used as a template for the pocket that you can tuck keepsakes into. I lined the pocket with a printed paper to give it a finished look. The book plate would look great on the inside page of your junk journal. Don’t forget to write in your name!  A flip is an element that you can flip open & write a little something on the inside. Kind of like a secret little space. Print all these elements on standard 8.5-inch x 11-inch paper.

Book Plate Envelope Flip

~ Tags: 2 kinds of tags are included in the Flower Gathering Junk Journal kit. The first are word tags that you cut out & glue wherever you want a little something-something. The word tags are on the same page as the flip because both look great printed on standard, 8.5-inch x 11-inch print paper.

The second sheet of tags are 4 wonderful gift type tags with lovely ladies wearing fanciful hats adorned with flowers. These tags look best when printed on 65 lb – 110 lb card stock. Just cut out, punch a hole if you want to add a ribbon or string. Tuck the tags into pockets or use to decorate a page.

There are many ways to approach this project. You can wait until all the kits are available & then begin or print, cut & fold the elements in this kit. Start collecting ephemera like these things I’m considering using in my Flower Gathering Junk Journal…

Check out the sweet edge on that envelope that was tucked in my laptop wooden desk. I can’t think of a better way to preserve it than it make it part of my new/old journal. I also found a petal paper envelope, old seed packets, & stationery. Bits of ribbon, lace, & buttons would look charming, too. Oh & don’t forget to include paper doilies, if you have them.

If you want to add a bit of age to your ephemera, you can tea or coffee dye.  Here’s a video I used before coffee dying my first batch of papers. Coffee Dying Video

I used the oven method so I could get a lot done in a short time.

I’ll bet you’re ready to download & get started, but before we do that there’s a bit of info you’ll want to know.  This kit will not be on studioonthecorner.com forever. This is part of a larger kit that will be listed on the Studio on the Corner Etsy shop. The purchased kit will have more options like PDF files & individual elements for digital creating. I’ve not decided how long the kit will be available for free, but I’ll post it here on the blog as well as on social media sites before removing the files.
